I was attending an engineering conference in London. My company was paying for the train fare down to London and also my accommodation within the capitol. The hotel where I had chosen to stay was opposite to the engineering conference venue, so I only had to cross the road in the morning to arrive at my destination. Although the conference wasn’t due to begin until the Monday morning, I chose to travel down to London on the Sunday, to be sure that I arrived with plenty of time to spare before the conference began the following morning. Before I set off for London though I decided to buy a new coat to wear at the engineering conference.
Some of my work colleagues were also traveling down to London with me, so when we arrived at the hotel, we all checked in together and met for dinner that evening to discuss the events ahead of us.
After a good nights sleep and a big breakfast we all headed across to the engineering conference, where we were given a time table to adhere to. The meetings started at 8 o clock in the morning, we finished at 12 for lunch and then again we were in meetings from 1 o clock until 5 o clock in the evening. The one thing I had to look forward to was that on the final day (which was to be Friday), the final meeting finished at 12 o clock, this meant we had time to shop in London, before catching the 6 o clock train home. I couldn’t wait to hit the shops.
So every day was more or less the same, going to these meetings, to pick up relevant knowledge to take back to our employers and hopefully enhance the company’s sales. On the 4th day I was quite excited as I knew there was less than a day left until I hit the shops in London.
On the Friday of that week, when the engineering conference was finally over, me and two other work mates headed for Oxford Street in London. There were many designer boutiques and lots of the shops were selling quirky clothes which I had not seen in any shop before.
I saw a lot of clothing which I liked, a lot of the clothing was designer. I was searching for some comfortable shoes for women initially, I found some really nice black shoes which had a wedge heel, they were really different from other shoes in the shops, and I felt that they would make me stand out from the crowd, so I decided to buy them. Then I searched through the designer shops for a coat, but there was nothing of any appeal. I ended up in Harrods, it is a fabulous department store, and has everything you could ever wish for in it. I bought a coat from Harrods, and was pleased with my purchase.
On the train home, I looked at my shoes for women and my coat and decided that spending a week listening to a conference really wasn’t that bad after all.
